Taking Care Of Your Furniture

There are some pieces of furniture which are very beautiful and timeless such as those made from crafted leather. The leather sofas are cheap to maintain since they require relatively low maintenance. Well, maintained sofas have a good look and are very attractive. You, therefore, need to know how to take care or protect your furniture.

Buying quality furniture

Purchasing of the high-quality product is the most crucial step. Such products can last for long since they are very durable. Quality leather can last a lifetime. In fact, it becomes more comfortable with time. Leather sofas are expensive, but when taken care of, they could be a worth investment. You need to look for a full grain leather which is very robust and has the highest quality.

Note that the split grains are not made from full skin and can not last for long. Also, ensure that your couch has a sturdy frame which can last for many years.

Cleaning by use of a dry cloth

You are required to wipe down the sofa regularly by use of a clean and dry cloth. You can also vacuum any crumbs or debris when necessary. Wiping up of the spills should be done immediately. This ensures that they do not get enough time for soaking in. In case there is any tough spot on the furniture, you can remove it by use of a slightly damped cloth. A little water can then be used to wipe the area and finally leave it to air-dry naturally.

Avoid using soaps, water, detergents and other cleaners as they may discolor your furniture causing it to crack and dry over time. If your sofas are prone to spillage, then you need to go for one which has been treated by use of a surface protectant and choose a dark couch as the light one might stain over time.

Avoid direct sunlight

Leather sofas do not need to be exposed to be exposed to the direct sunlight or bright lights. They are mainly made from natural materials, and they are prone to drying ones exposed to high temperatures. Exposure to direct sunlight might also lead to discolorization and cracking of your sofas. You must also avoid those areas that are extremely cold.

Use of a conditioner

The leather sofas are treated by use of a special conditioner after six months. This is a creamy product which helps to prevent cracking and drying. It also contributes to maintaining of the couch’s color. The conditioners are easily available in the common furniture stores.
